Almost forgot to register for this...

think they would have let me run if I just showed up? Luckily I remembered and signed up today.

Event: Half Marathon - Clydesdale
Bib Number: 3738
Event Date: May 21st

Tomorrow I'm doing the Simply Stu triathlon....made a nice little trip to the bike store, and unlike shopper Susan, I was actually able to restrain myself to just some spare innertubes, a floor pump, and a little bag for under the seat. I'm ready to roll now.

Snot Rocket.

I'm not sure how it happened, but at some point on my walk to the train yesterday I decided that it was perfectly acceptable, in the close proximity of other people, to lauch a snot rocket into the road. Even though I was the opposite side from the people I was walking next to (strangers thank God), I did get a few looks, but deep down I just laughed and smiled.

Ah the life of a triathlete, some people will just never understand.

Want to tri with me?

Then do this this on Saturday and we'll hypothetical have done our first tri of the year together. Plus you'll get cool swag for completing it!!! Stu's website is all kinds of kick ass.

On a different note, I already had my first flat of the season, so I need to get that changed this week. It's been about 10 years since I changed a tire (and that was a mountain bike), so I can only imagine how much fun it's going to be on this much smaller rim. Any suggestions out there from an "experienced" tire changer that I should be aware of?

To Buffy

Over the last 18 years, you have been one of the true joys of my life. Even though I no longer live at home, everytime I came back to see Mom and Dad, you were right there, jumping up on me, licking me, and still wanting my never ending belly rubs. You never gave me crap, unlike Mom, when I wouldn't come home for a few weeks, or maybe months, you were there to wreslte with me and chase me around the yard. You were my first dog, and you've seen me through a lot, more than you would ever know.

As the years have gone by, I knew this day was coming in theory, but I never thought it would materialize, 18 years girl, that's long, even for a little dog. Well today, it's here, Buffy. You've held on long enough. You fought through the first tumor, through losing your hearing, and just recently through the loss of eyesight in one eye. Well, kiddo, I know the other eye just went out, and the doc says that you're in a lot of pain the last few days. I know Mom and Dad don't want to do it, but it's the best for you, although it's painful for all of us, it's what's best. Just know that we all love you very much, and I can say, that coming how now will never be the same.

I Am Not A Fish.

That's about all I have say about that right now. My form is coming along well, but it just seems I can't get enough "glide" out of each stroke. Going to amp up my swim workouts the next few months, that is for sure.

I definitly am not going to win the swim portion of any tri, anytime soon, or maybe I was just swimming with the two fastest people in Chicago last night, but I'm guessing it wasn't the latter.

The Madness Is About To Start.

Well my friends, it has been a week, and yes the blog has been neglected. I really don't apologize as the last few days have just flew by me.

I had a little Ipod malfunction that has monopolized my time late last week/early this week, which I finally have fixed. The little bugger wouldn't sync up to Itunes, so even though I was adding music/podcasts, they wouldn't transfer, but it's all fixed now. It's funny but living without the updated podcasts I listen to, kind of felt like I was walking naked around the city, I felt pretty vulnerable. Weird.

On another note, my other love has taken precedent the last week....yes I am a triathlete, but I've been a college basketball fan much longer, and well to be honest, there is no better time of the year to be one than March. For those of you not in the know, it's March Madness, and it is by far the most exciting event in the sports world. The amount of basketball played in the next 3 weeks is just overwhelming to be honest, so I've been neck deep in that. Not to worry, I'm still getting my workouts in, so we're good that way. I even managed a 20 mile bike ride the other day, my neck is still getting use to the aero position, but I can tell it gets easier ride after ride, did I mention I LOVE my new bike?

In closing, I'm going to leave you a little video from the game I went to on Saturday. It was Marquette's Senior Day...sending off our boys Chris Grimm "Reaper", Joey "JC" Chapman and Steve "Money" Novak.............you should see Money in The League next year... and by the way, wish us luck today at 1PM central in the Big East Tourney!! FIRE UP MARQUETTE!!!

So the next time you smell that person next to you at the gym.

Think of this.

"Do you know what body odor actually is? No? Well, let me tell you. Body odor is not caused by sweat. Nope it's not. You have these cute little bacteria living on your body. The cute little bacteria like to get their mack on dining on your sweat. Then the cute little bacteria defecate on you. And you know, shit stinks. I love microbiology."

The reason I bring this up, is because last week there was a guy running next to me on the treadmill that smelled like total ass. We're talking "I think I'm going to puke" nasty ass smell. Sounds like there was a feast for kings (at least microbacterial kings) going on next to me. "Can I have another piece, please?"

Tonight...back to the pool with TNT. Last week was very informative, learned some technique drills, so I'd imagine it'd be more of the same tonight.

JUST 20 minutes more.

When did this start sounding like a short time for me to run? Yet that is what I muttered to myself yesterday as I was doing my 7 miler on the treadmill. I'm not going to lie, I didn't eat well yesterday, and about mile 4.5 I hit "the spot" on the treadmill. Cmon now, we all know "the spot"...it happens every once and a while to every one of us. The time when you're running, where you just are like "Fuck it, I'm done. This run is over, why do I even like to do this?"

Well that happened to me last night, and as I was reasoning/debating in my mind to continue, I actually stated, "Come on, it's only 20 minutes more"....seriously ONLY 20 minutes more? Hell, 20 minutes of running use to be considered my ENTIRE cardio workout. Yup 20 minutes, get off the treadmill and hit the showers with all the old naked men watching eerily from the steam room, now I consider it a cool down. WTF...."ONLY 20 minutes"

I don't know if this logic is funny, or I am just sick. I guess the jury is still out on that.

On a side note...if any of you have not heard "Lux Aeterna" for the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack, I highly recommend you download it and listen to it, especially right before a workout. It's as addicting to listen to as that Rolling Stones song from the Ironman Gatorade commercial (House Of The Rising Sun, I think)

On a side, side note....I gave up cheese and soda for lent.....can you guess what I'm eating? That's right Lou Malnati's and a Diet Dew, it was free at work today, and I'm a sucker for a free lunch, especially when it deals with my favorite all time pizza joint. My Lent fast lasted a total of 12 hours, so at least I got that going for me, fucking brilliant I am sometimes, I tell you. I guess I'll delay lent a day and see what happens.
